I use a wheel emulator from SimRacingMachines with Fanatec QR for my DD1. I decided not to use the original Fanatec Podium hub because this emulator is much thinner.
Just bolt it down to the wheel hub provided with 3 included screws, nuts and washers. The other 3 holes from the SRM adapter were not needed but I think that´s more than enough. Rexing includes another set of (longer) screws with nuts - I think this is for other QRs (like Simucube etc.) Then plug in the coiled cable and that´s it.
Here is a picture from below - I wanted to show also the dot on each grip. This is normal and from the build process. Have seen much worse looking ones from other wheel manufactorors.
And here is the final solution mounted on my DD1.
Let´s go... or not?
I tried to connect the wheel with an active USB 3.0 hub and an active USB repeater cable with extra power unit.
Both connections are official recommended by Rexing on their website but I had some troubles to use the wheel/UGT software (connection loss, dash freeze and/or missing button reactions).
After contacting Rexing (and later on the display and software manufactoror UGT) with the issue both companies reacted very fast and with a lot of informations.
Together we did a lot of testing and tried different settings (e.g. motherboard/Windows USB energy saving options, new UGT beta software etc.) but without success.
In the end the problem was a grounding issue with the Fanatec DD1. The wheel should be decoupled of the DD base and Rexing sent me a plastic spacer to do this.
This spacer has to be mounted with 3 countersunk screws on the hub of the wheel with nuts. Additional hex head screws go from below the plastic spacer to the SRM quick release. So you don´t have a direct metal connection anymore.
Problems can happen - especially with complex technical things (PC hardware, Windows operating system, USB ports/drivers, energy options, wheel hardware, dash software, cables/hubs, ...). I work in a software development company and know, that it´s not always easy to analyze and solve problems. But the most important thing is HOW a company handle it. I am able to confirm, that the support is great if you have problems with the product. Sure this should be standard at this price point but we all know, often it isn´t... special thanks to Dragana from Rexing & Hannes Pretterhofer / Andreas Windfeldt from Asetek (UGT) for your support!
