11/2021 - new Rexing formula wheel "Mayaris" available
The Rexing formula v5 is out of stock - Rexing offers a new "Mayaris" version in their webshop: https://rexing.eu/rexing-formula-wheel-mayaris/
Comparison - Rexing formula v5 vs. Mayaris:
The front plate finish is matte now.
You have 2 additional buttons and a more "symetric" look below the LCD.
The funky switch (multiswitch) replaced the D-pad - the joystick has a better design. The LEDs are covered - that means you can´t see the LED anymore if they are OFF. Size/weight and quality is very similar/the same.
On the back nothing really changed here.
On top the push/pull paddles, in the middle the magnetic shifter and below the master/slave clutch. All paddles feel the same on both wheels. On the photo it looks like the paddles also have a matte finish now - didn´t check this in real.
Both wheels have just one coiled USB cable.
Based on the official information you have to use the Mayaris with an powered USB hub because of the necessary amount of electricity.
Sizes/distances are the same - so no differences in terms of usage.
The rubber grips are great.
Easy setup in Microsoft Windows 10
Microsoft Windows 10 installed the driver automatically. You have to calibrate the new Rexing game device in your control panel.
Here you can test all the buttons and calibrate the analog devices (stick, clutch).
You have to use a powered USB hub.
Software SimDash for button/LED configuraton
Here you are able to setup each RPM LED and marshal/flag LED individually.
Just click on the LED and define your desired color and/or status. You are able to choose more than one condition for the same LED. On the screenshot above the yellow flag has a higher priority over the blue flag status.
You have tons of colors available.
On this screen you can setup the backlit buttons behaviour and general brightness.
Here is an example for the PIT limiter setup:
Lower priority: the button LED is ALWAYS ON (not blinking)
Higher priority: If the speed limiter status is ON, the button LED should blink "normal"
Some pictures in action
Wheel on startup with Rexing splash screen. There is a tool to change the splash screen to an individual picture (I used this before on my exernal USBD480 display) but I like the default Rexing splash screen so I didn´t change it until now.
The wheel after startup of SimDash (for buttons/LEDs) and Z1 dashboard (for LCD)
Detailed view of the illuminated push buttons with stickers.
The brightness of the buttons with the highest setting in SimDash (8/8) is fine for dark rooms. The brightness of the RPM/flag LEDs you can change directly on the wheel.
For PIT behaviour I have chosen white/black alternate in SimDash.
My POV - love it. Feels like sitting in a real formula 1 car.

A short "look & feel" - get an idea of the build quality and the new design with updated buttons/switches.
First I show the new backlit buttons and the funky switch in detail.
After that you can see the new designed analog joystick and the covered LEDs.
The front is matte now - on the back nothing has changed. Push/pull paddles are light, very good magnet shifter and master/slave clutch.
And another good thing:
My grounding issue with my Fanatec DD1 is gone with this new wheel.
I don´t need the plastic spacer anymore!

Wheel in action - two full laps in the MP4-30 (iRacing) in Montreal.
Starting from the PITs to show a possible configuration:
blinking PIT limiter button on the top left, RPM LEDs alternate white/red.
After that I switch through some Z1 dashes and change the brake bias before starting the laps.
You can see my individual RPM configuration during the laps (green => yellow => red => blue => flashing) as well.
Conclusion:
In short:
I sold my "old" Rexing formula v5 and use the new Mayaris version only now.
Explanation:
The Rexing formula v5 is (or was) one of the best formula wheels on the market as you can see on my detailed review on the other pages.
But the new Rexing formula Mayaris just make some things even better. All the updates were in the right direction for me.
- USBD480
I had to switch from Z1 dashboard (external display) to UGT manager software after my purchase of the first Rexing formula v5. It was a difficult change for me first - each software has their advantages / disadvantages and for sure it´s a lot of personal preference. UGT isn´t bad at all - they have a great support and I loved it to create my own dashboard in a easy way. But Z1 is just more stable and a lot faster... compare the full lap videos and you understand what I mean.
To mention also a possible "disadvantage" for some people: You have to run 2 separate software packages now (SimDash for LEDs and your desired LCD dash software) - but this doesn´t bother me at all. Didn´t know SimDash before but it´s also an easy software and stable/fast so no problems for me at all.
- illuminated push buttons
Nothing really important for sure but this was one of the reasons I always flirted with the CSX2 as well. It just looks nice IMO. And Rexing was able to manage the power supply only with one USB cable here.
- Funky switch
On my first purchase of the Rexing formula v5 I asked Barry Rowland from SRG about his opinion. He told me, that he don´t know this wheel but he would never purchase a wheel without a funky switch in this price category. For me it was not really an argument not to buy it but yeah - now we have this important switch as well :-) And it looks more serious in comparison to the D-pad.
- New design elements
I like the LED covers from the Mayaris, the matte finish looks nice too but here I preferred the "shiny" front of the old version.
Overall I am very happy with this wheel and if the v5 was 95% for me the Mayaris is now 99% (nothing is perfect in this world).
I want to thank Rexing at this point that I was able to get my hands on a Mayaris very early.
And I also want to highlight again, that I am not connected to Rexing in any way - it´s my honest opinion as a customer about this wheel to help other sim racers out there to have independant informations. Please feel free to contact me, if there are additional questions.
